From the outside, the jacket is exceptionally restrained: lustrous black silk, clean architectural lines, and three subtle kamon, or family crests. Traditionally, the presence of crests increased the formality of a garment, making this haori appropriate for important ceremonial occasions.
Open the jacket, however, and an entirely different textile appears.
The interior is lined in ivory silk decorated with colorful seasonal medallions, creating a striking contrast with the nearly monochromatic exterior.
